Something new: I’ve decided to play around with a series of 6″ X 6″ canvases that I have been asking to be made useful. This is the first of a series that will consist of circle patterns and a limited palette. Colours used are Cadmium Red Deep, Alizarin Crimson, Permanent Green and Titanium White.

In January I attended a demo of Golden products where I was inspired to pick up a few new items to try out. This isn’t exactly what I had hoped it would be, but I learned some things along the way. Here’s my process:

The text I chose was inspired by:
I’m still working on my second experimental stencil piece and we’ll see how that one turns out.

I spent a little time back on my first still life of this year. I need a few more days away from it before I decide if it’s finished.

This one came about as something to do with the extra paint on my palette at the end of a painting session. I hate just tossing it, but at the same time I have not come up with a good way to save it until next time either. This is my solution.

This past week has not been productive. And in the time I was working creatively, I was plagued by self-doubt. Regardless, it’s here to see.

I’m still feeling pretty uninspired to paint. So I decided to play a little and created these two pour paintings. Next week I hope to begin something new and large. And hopefully interesting.

So I’ve started working on a commission based on A Crane Called Frank. And I thought I would play with some of the oil mediums to see if they might be something I want to use in this new painting (which I’m calling Francine at the moment). I tried out Galkyd, Neo Megilp and Galkyd Gel. And in the process this small storm ensued.
And here is the beginning of Francine. I’m just building the background now. Chances are very little of this will be visible in the final painting, but we’ll see. I just need to put on a few coats of clear gesso to seal it really well and I will be ready to go.

Lastly, here are a couple of drawings from this week. One from a figure drawing class that I’m doing – no, she did not have an inordinately large head, I just messed up the scale – and a small drawing I did during the week while thinking about folded paper in preparation to begin Francine.
