“The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake.”
– Kurt Vonnegut
A little more done on this one. I’m really not pleased with the placement of the white books – I will have to somehow improve the composition before I’ve finished.

I LIKE the composition.

I feel like they are too far to the left to be a strong central focal point, but not exactly off-centre enough to be asymmetrically balanced.

Mmm you’ve got me thinking and looking and thinking …could you perhaps support the asymmetry by doing something extra to the left of the white books? Darkening/deepening this area slightly to further draw attention to the books? Just a thought. I still like it as is.

That’s a good idea – I’m going to play with some glazing I think. If I assume the light source is from the right hand side and place the shadows to the left of the white books, that might do the trick. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thank you, Susanne, for following my blog. Appreciate. And by the way, I like your artwork as it is, even if you don’t play with it further.

Thank you – I plan to add some glazing to the background in order to get it to recede a little and create some depth. We’ll see how it goes…

Sometimes turning a work upside down, or sideways gives a new perspective on it. I do that with photos too at times.

I have done that in the past myself, but have not tried it with this piece yet. I will definitely do that before I sit down to work on it again.

Love the composition. And that quote – art does make life more bearable for me! So true indeed. ❤❤❤

I so agree! I think the world would be a much better place if we could all take more time to enjoy art in our daily lives!
